What am I studying?

Career opportunities within the education sector exist not only in our schools, but also TAFE and vocational education providers, universities and training organisations, as well as in the public and private sector as training facilitators. Many future educators have a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people and to share their passion for learning.

On average, 1500 new permanent teachers are employed each year in Queensland, and additionally many are offered temporary or contract positions. Teachers in Queensland state schools enjoy a competitive salary, generous superannuation schemes, locality allowance for service in specified regions and significant leave entitlements. A qualified graduate teacher can expect to receive a starting salary of approximately $46 000.

Education’s integration with almost all industries provides an opportunity for you to be able to pursue a career in something you are passionate about or talented in.  For example, if you are a talented musician, or have a keen interest in sport or the outdoors, you may consider teaching as a career direction as it allows you to explore your passion through teaching others.  Education is a key industry with good job prospects in a broad spectrum of occupations.
