Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts

CQUniversity's Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts double degree enables you to complete both the Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts in five years full-time study. This degree provides you with dual qualifications and skills that are well regarded in both the private and public sectors.

The Bachelor of Arts component of this program provides you with a multidisciplinary education that encourages you to gain knowledge in a range of humanities and social science disciplines. You will explore disciplines that study the way humans recognise, record and debate human practices, meanings and values. This will aid you in developing contemporary understandings both of the human condition and of how society operates.

The Bachelor of Laws component of this program will satisfy the academic requirement for admission as a legal practitioner. As a law graduate, you are required to undergo a period of practical legal training before admission as a legal practitioner and can practice law in Australia. The joint degree ensures a depth of understanding of the cultures within which law is situated and offers opportunities to enhance the literacy skills of graduates of Laws.

If you‘re studying the Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts double degree, you may choose to exit the program early and may be eligible for the qualification of Diploma of Arts.

The combined nature of the program will prepare you for a number of career opportunities, in private and government legal practice, research and academia, government administration and planning, in-house counsel, environmental planning and management, nature and heritage conservation, sociology, diplomacy, politics and many more. The Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts program satisfies the academic requirement for admission as a legal practitioner.

You are required to complete 40 courses, including:

22 compulsory law courses

2 law electives chosen from a specified list

2 arts plans from the following Bachelor of Arts plans

  • Geography & Environmental Studies 
  • History
  • International History
  • Journalism
  • Liberal Studies
  • Literary & Cultural Studies

NB: Plans may vary from 6 – 8 courses, depending on the plan selected.

4 electives from the Bachelor of Arts program or from any other undergraduate program of study offered at CQUniversity provided prerequisites and corequisites are met.
