The Bachelor of Accounting offers you the opportunity to specialise in Financial Planning.  By studying this specialisation you will enhance your career opportunities by obtaining dual knowledge and skills.  This program is accredited with the professional accounting and financial planning bodies of Australia.  By studying the Bachelor of Accounting (Financial Planning) you will have a significant advantage in having qualifications that are highly sought after as well as the flexibility to explore careers in the accounting and financial planning fields.  If you would like to undertake the Bachelor of Accounting (Financial Planning) you will complete both accounting specialist and financial planning specialist courses.

The Bachelor of Accounting is accredited with CPA Australia, the Institute if Chartered Accountants in Australia, Institute of Public Accountants, Association of Taxation and Management Accounting, and the Financial Planning Association (Financial Planning specialisation).

Accountants develop a range of skills in analysis, presentation and communication of organisational financial information, and find professional positions across areas such as computer auditing, taxation planning, management accounting, treasury, financial consulting and strategic management. This program prepares graduates for employment within these fields and ensures that you graduate with good communication and technical skills. CQUniversity’s accounting program is unique because it is a program in its own right, rather than a specialisation of an existing program. This enables you to gain in-depth knowledge and greater enhance your skill-set of accounting practices.

Work Intergrated Learning

CQUniversity is pleased to announce the introduction of a practical placement course that may form part of your elective accounting studies. This optional work placement will provide you with experience in a professional environment relevant to your study discipline. You will reflect and report upon a range of factors related to your placement experience. This professional experience course will be available by distance education and will allow you to apply the knowledge and skills acquired through your study and ensure you graduate work-ready. If you are already working in a position directly related to your program of study you are encouraged to consider the work-placement elective package. This course will see you secure and undertake an approved, full-time work placement of approximately 12 weeks duration. Please note that this placement may require relocation of accommodation to suit the employment.

To be eligible for work placement you must have successfully completed BUSN19024 and successfully completed 48 units of credit in your program for which the placement is being studied plus a Grade Point Average of 5 or more or approval from the Head of Program.

Program Structure

You are required to complete a total of 24 courses including four core courses, 12 core accounting technical specialist courses and may choose to specialise in Financial Planning or undertake the general accounting program.  The Financial Planning specialisation consists of eight courses in areas such as investment analysis and risk management, retirement and superannuation, estate and succession planning, insurance planning, strategic management and more.  The generic accounting stream consists or two core courses and six electives.

Professional Recognition

As a graduate, you may be eligible for membership of CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA), and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) - Restricted Member IPA status. However, these organisations accredit each campus individually, so you should check the current status of accreditation for your desired study location.

As a graduate of this program you may also be eligible to join the Association of Taxation and Management Accountants (ATMA) at the member level and may be eligible to apply for registration with the Tax Agents Board provided you meet the Board's study and work experience requirements.

If you complete the financial planning specialisation of this program you will also meet the Australian Securities and Investment Commission's RG146 traning standard and may be eligible for membership of the Financial Planning Association (FPA).
