Master of Business Administration

CQUniversity’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) has been refreshed in 2013 and is designed to enhance the opportunities for graduates to obtain positions involving major managerial responsibilities in commerce, industry and government. Its broad aim is to provide a program which will enable its graduates to apply contemporary management and business knowledge and perspectives in an interdisciplinary manner to the dynamic environments in which they are likely to find themselves as managers.

Within the MBA program you will study four core courses focused on a range of areas of business such as leadership and governance, leading and managing change, innovation and business development and strategy development and initiatives. You will also study four foundation knowledge courses in areas such as marketing management, human resource management, operational analysis, market research, accounting and more. In addition to these courses, you will complete four courses either in one area of specialisation or study a range of subjects leading to a non-specialisation. The areas of specialisation include Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Occupational Health and Safety, International Business or Project Management in Infrastructure and Resources.

This degree is offered both on-campus and by distance education, full-time or part-time, giving you the flexibility to balance study with your work and family commitments. An MBA qualification is highly sought after by employers, both within Australia and internationally, enhancing your employment opportunities and giving you greater opportunities to work overseas or within a global organisation.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for the Master of Business Administration include:

• A bachelor degree in any discipline from an Australian university or college, or equivalent together with at least two years of work experience in a management capacity, or equivalent; or
• An honours degree in business, management, commerce or economics from an Australian university, or equivalent; or
• A CQUniversity Graduate Diploma of Management or equivalent; or
• Six years relevant management/industry experience and engagement in professional development.

Career Opportunities

An MBA from CQUniversity provides opportunities, the skills and knowledge for graduates to assume management responisibilities in marketing, human resource management, international business, project management and finance.

Program Structure

You are required to complete 12 courses (96 units of credit) including:

• 4 core courses;
• 4 foundation courses from a choice of eight;
• 4 courses for a major (chosen according to the rules for each stated major OR
• 4 electives of which at least three must be selected from specified courses for this program, provided prerequisites have been met.

Available majors within the MBA are:

Financial Management will provide you with specialist knowledge and skills in organisational finance, financial market analysis, international finance and advanced corporate finance.

Human Resources Management will enhance your skills and knowledge in human resource strategy and implementation, innovation and change, and human resources in the global environment.
Availability: on campus at CQUniversity Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or by distance education

Marketing will build on your understanding of buyer behaviour, integrated marketing  communications, market research and service product marketing.
Availability: on campus at CQUniversity Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or by distance education.

Occupational Health and Safety (New in 2013) explores the areas of human factors, occupational health, hygiene and toxicology, law and management of occupational health and safety, risk management and safety technologies.
Availability: distance education

International Business (New in 2013) will see you develop your knowledge in international finance, human resource management in the global environment, international business law and global marketing.
Availability: on campus at CQUniversity Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or by distance education.

Project Management in Infrastructure and Resources (New in 2013) will see you build on your knowledge and skills in a variety of project management goals, principles and systems.
Availability: on campus at CQUniversity Rockhampton. This specialisation is not available for International students.
