Diploma of Business/ Bachelor of Financial Planning

A dual offer program provides you with access to commence your studies through the chosen diploma, with an alternate pathway into university. This pathway is ideal if you may not have qualified for immediate entry to university, you might not be sure, or ready, to begin university study or you would like to just get a taste of your future career.

A standard bachelor degree is usually a three year university program. Through the Diploma of Business/Bachelor of Financial Planning dual offer, CQIT graduates can now complete the Bachelor of Financial Planning in just two and a half years* by receiving credit transfers for their previous study. Plus you can save on the cost of university fees by first completing a diploma.

While studying the diploma programs at CQIT you will gain valuable practical experience, this coupled with the core theoretical skills learnt at CQUniversity ensures that you will graduate work ready and are highly sought after by prospective employers.

The Diploma of Business qualification is for people who want to work in a senior administrative role or who wish to gain credit for further study at university. It is ideal for individuals who are seeking to further develop their skills across a wide range of business functions.

Within the Diploma of Business at CQIT you will explore the topics of business services, management and office studies.

The Bachelor of Financial Planning component aims to develop the competency to identify, analyse and formulate strategies relating to the financial planning needs of an individual. The program provides specific studies in the financial planning industry/profession, investment planning, taxation planning, retirement planning and social security, and the preparation of a compliant Statement of Advice (SoA).

TAFE has long been a recognised pathway to university study and CQUniversity is pleased to announce a wide range of dual offer programs available with the Central Queensland Institute of TAFE (CQIT) to make it even easier for students to start their university journey at TAFE.

Career Opportunities

With the growing complexity in financial markets, changes in superannuation laws and the growing need of the individual to maintain their chosen lifestyle, the need for expert knowledge in planning individuals' financial wealth has increased. Currently there are just over 18,000 financial advisers in Australia working for 749 advisory groups operating over 8,000 practices. Career opportunities can be found with medium to large sized 'dealer groups' that often operate like a franchise, institutional-owned financial adviser firms with employed advisers, and as an independent financial planner who may have their own licence or work with a licensee.

Program Structure

You are required to complete a total of 24 courses (subjects) which include 20 core courses and four electives chosen from specified undergraduate programs from the Faculty of Arts, Business, Informatics and Education, provided prerequisites have been met.

Students of the CQIT Diploma of Business may be eligible for credit for up to 8 level one courses.

How to Apply

Completing a dual offer program application is easy. Dual offers allow you to apply for a CQIT Diploma and a university qualification at the same time (one QTAC application only). Upon successful completion of your TAFE studies you will be able to progress seamlessly into CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Financial Planning (with full credit for successful study).

Professional Recognition

Upon graduation from the Bachelor of Financial Planning you will meet the Australian Securities and Investment Commission’s minimum training standards for financial product advisors under RG146.
