Yes, as long as you seek course approval from your Program Advisor or Coordinator by completing a ‘course planner’ document.
Does the exchange program extend my degree by a semester/year?
No, not unless you do not stay within your approved study program or fail courses.
Do I have to pay tuition fees to my host institution?
No, you will be required to pay your HECS fees to CQUniversity for a full-time workload. You do not pay any tuition fees to your host university.
Are there scholarships/grants to go on exchange?
Yes, we do offer Outbound Student Mobility Scholarships to students who are eligible.
Full term program - $5000.00 approx.
Short term program - $1000.00 approx.
When should I start planning for overseas study?
As early as possible! This gives you the most time to prepare financially and to select your courses for CQUniversity and the overseas institution. You can use elective or core courses.
I am in my first year. Am I eligible for the exchange program?
Students need to complete at least 8 courses before going on exchange for a full term. You need to complete at least 4 courses for a short term program.
I am a postgraduate student. Am I eligible for the exchange program?
Yes, postgraduate students can go on the exchange program.
I am an international student. Am I eligible for the exchange program?
International students are only eligible for the short term exchange program (3-4 weeks).
I am studying part-time at CQUniversity. Am I eligible for the exchange program?
Yes. Part-time students can take part in exchange but must undertake full-time study whilst abroad.
Do I have to be able to speak another language in order to study in countries that are not English speaking?
No, our partner universities offer courses taught in English. You can learn a language program before commencing the exchange program.
Can I study overseas at a university where CQUniversity has no exchange agreement?
Yes. However, you will be required to pay international tuition fees required by the host university
Students who are interested in applying for a place in the program should consult with the International Office for advice on appropriate institutions for the desired program of study.
How long can I go on exchange for?
Most students go for one term, but you can choose to go for one academic year (two terms).
Some of our exchange partners also offer short term programs which are for 3-4 weeks.
How do I apply to go on exchange?
You must apply through the CQUniversity International office.
You cannot apply directly to the host university. Make an appointment to see the International Administrative Officer exchange-enquiries@cqu.edu.au who will help you with advice, information and the procedures. The earlier you can start the process the better!
Are there deadlines for submitting applications?
Students are required to submit applications prior to the following deadlines:
• Last working day in March for Term 2 departure for the same year;
• Last working day in August for Term 1 departure for the following year.
Late Applications: Late applications will not be accepted, however, the University reserves the right on a case-by-case basis and under an exceptional circumstance to accept an application after the published closing dates.
Where do I live while on exchange?
Exchange students typically live in on-campus accommodation or other student lodges or hostels. While it is not usually guaranteed, most host universities do try to make sure that exchange students obtain a place in campus accommodation.
