Health Collaborative Research Network (CRN) PhD Scholarship - Ageing

CQUniversity is offering a great opportunity with six 3 year PhD Scholarships under the Health Collaborative Research Network (CRN) project with partners Curtin University, Queensland University of Technology and The University of Queensland. CQUniversity is committed to an exciting journey of achieving its aspirations for being a research intensive university with a national and international focus. The HEALTH CRN presents a unique opportunity offering both high-value scholarship packages along with access to researcher and research project development funding.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must:

·         possess qualifications equivalent to an Australian first class honours degree or Master by Research.

·         if within a clinical discipline, possess appropriate registration.

·         fulfil all other CQUniversity doctoral candidate requirements for domestic students including visa requirements if appropriate.

Selection Criteria

Aligning with Australia’s national health-research priorities, the Health CRN’s scholarships aim to maximise opportunities for researchers to harness CQUniversity's 'power of place'. With access to health networks on the ground in rural and regional communities CQUniversity is best positioned to engage with its communities to solve the challenges they face.

Population Health Gerontologist Professor Lynne Parkinson is seeking high quality PhD candidates interested in pursuing research into ageing. A series of PhD projects focused within the areas of chronic illness or quality use of medicines and ageing are available, including:

·         Chronic mental illness in ageing rural adults: understanding the impact on ageing

·         Nutrition and mental health in older community living people

·         Oosteoarthritis in a cohort of “baby boomer” women: management in the community

Scholarships are available to CQUniversity candidates who wish to develop health-related research projects alongside larger, metropolitan research teams. Candidates must have a co-supervisor from one of the three Health CRN partners: Curtin University; Queensland University of Technology; or The University of Queensland.

Additional Information

Package opportunities include:

- Base package $30,000 per year (tax free) scholarship plus approximately $14,000 in additional benefits such as: travel, resource costs and ancillary work.

- Access to up to $10,000 in collaborative research and researcher development programs dependant on performance.

- The HEALTH CRN Partnership offers the potential to build national research networks and project collaborations.

- Eligibility for other HEALTH CRN funded opportunities considered.
