CQUniversity Accommodation Scholarship

The CQUniversity Accommodation Scholarship increases access and success of commencing regional and rural students from a low income background. It provides students who might otherwise struggle with the costs of relocation with the opportunity to live on-campus while studying a degree program offered at either CQUniversity Mackay or Rockhampton campuses.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to receive the CQUniversity Accommodation Scholarship an applicant must be: 

• Able to demonstrate low socio-economic status and/or be from a rural or remote  location

• A full-time first year undergraduate student studying in on-campus mode at CQUniversity Rockhampton or Mackay campus

• An Australian Citizen or holder of an Australian Humanitarian visa

Selection Criteria

Each applicant will be assessed based on the application form which should include a personal statement outlining:

“What impact receiving the scholarship will have on your ability to study at CQUniversity”.

Terms and Conditions of the Scholarship

Successful recipients must:

• Follow the same rules, regulations and conditions that apply to all student residents as per the Student Residences Handbook. 

• Reside at the CQUniversity Rockhampton or Mackay Student Residences for the duration of their scholarship.

• Remain enrolled as a full-time student in the on-campus mode of study in Terms 1 and 2.

• Maintain satisfactory academic progress. For the purposes of this scholarship academic progress will be determined as achieving at least a passing grade of 50% in all courses attempted in the student’s most recent term of enrolment

• Advise, in writing, the Student Support Centre, if undertaking an industry placement as a compulsory component of your degree program, before the commencement term of your placement.

The scholarship may be terminated if the above terms and conditions of the scholarship are not met. Should there be, in the opinion of the Student Support Centre, extenuating circumstances such, that the above reasons to forfeit or the terms of the scholarship are not fairly or equitable applicable to a student, then the Student Support Centre may use discretion in the continuation or variation of the scholarship.

The CQUni Accommodation Scholarship is awarded for one year* and is targeted at students in their first year of study.

A limited number of scholarships may be available to recipients progressing into their second and subsequent years of study. Students can only reapply to continue the scholarship if they received the CQUni Accommodation Scholarship in the term previous to reapplication.

Students will be assessed against the current CQUni Accommodation Scholarship guidelines with preference given to those students who can demonstrate significant ongoing financial hardship and a commitment to their studies.  The selection process is highly competitive and continuing scholarships are not guaranteed.

*One year, being two consecutive terms either Term 1 and Term 2 or Term 2 and Term 1 of the following year.

Please Note: The scholarship does not cover the CQUni Student Residences Facilities Levy.

Payment of the Scholarship

CQUniversity Rockhampton Student Residences

Payment of the Scholarship will be made directly to the CQUniversity Student Residences.

CQUniversity Mackay Student Residences  

Payment of the board component of the scholarship will be made directly to the CQUniversity Student Residences. However, from 2013 the Mackay Student Residences will no longer be offering a catering service for students. As an alternative recipients of the CQUni Accommodation Scholarship will be provided with Groceries Only Woolworths Gift Cards. Students will be responsible for purchasing their own groceries with these cards

How do I apply?

To apply for the CQUniversity Accommodation Scholarship:

1. Read the Scholarship Guidelines
2. Complete a Scholarship Application Form
3. Ensure all supporting documentation is completed and attached as outlined in the Scholarship Guidelines
4. Submit your Scholarship Application to the Student Support Centre by the closing date – refer to the Scholarship Application Form for submission options

Please Note: Complete Applications must be received at the Student Support Centre, Scholarships Office by the closing date.

How will I know the outcome of my application?

A selection panel, consisting of representatives from CQUniversity will meet to determine the successful applicant. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications as soon as possible after the selection panel sits.
