What is the purpose of the scholarship program?

The scholarship program aims to encourage BMA’s Indigenous community to participate in tertiary education at CQUniversity, in an academic program that will provide skills and knowledge that will support community development.

The scholarships goal is to encourage more Indigenous students to pursue a tertiary education so they can remain and contribute to their communities.

Sorry this scholarship is only open to students applying to start their program in Term One 2013

When do I need to apply?

Applications are being accepted NOW until 5pm Friday 04 January 2013.

 

How many scholarships will be offered in 2013?

10 community scholarships, plus 5 scholarships for Indigenous students.

 

What is the scholarship value?

The scholarship is offered at $5000 per year for the duration of your program (full time), up to 4.5 years.

 

Are there any special conditions to the scholarship?

The only condition is that you pass your courses to receive ongoing support; we ask that you let us know if any of your circumstances change during the duration of your scholarship. We would also appreciate you would let us know

 

Am I eligible to apply?

You are eligible if you meet these criteria;

  • You belong to one of the Traditional Owner Groups within BMA’s footprint, or
  • You are Indigenous and you or your parents reside permanently in one of the specified postcode areas; 4717, 4720, 4723, 4744, 4745.
  • You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • You are enrolling in an Academic program that will contribute towards alleviating the skills shortages in the specified region (non mining related).
  • You are enrolled at HECS Census date.
  • You are applying to study in a full time program, either on campus or by distance at a Central Queensland Campus of CQUniversity.

 

What does non mining mean?

You are enrolled in a program that is not directly linked to the mining industry. Programs that are excluded include programs directly related to Mining, Engineering or Geo Science, using contact details below.

 

I am not a school leaver can I still apply?

We encourage applications from mature students as well as school leavers.

 

I am from Dysart, but went to boarding school in Brisbane am I still eligible under the residential criteria?

Yes if your parents maintain a permanent address in Dysart you are eligible, as long as you meet the rest of the eligibility criteria

 

I am not enrolling in a program that is Health, Nursing or Education related, can I still apply?

Yes, we encourage applications from students in all non-mining disciplines, 5 Indigenous scholarships are on offer, so yes make sure you get your application in by the deadline. Refer to the student handbook for a full list of programs.
