Senior Lecturer
PhD (Learning relationships in online contexts), MSc International Health (with distinction), PGCE (Further & Higher Education), Cert.IV Assessment & Workplace Training, L/PE, DN, RM, RGN.
My professional experience is in health care provision primarily as a registered nurse and then as a midwife and community nurse in Scotland. I later spent some time managing primary health care programs in developing countries and areas of conflict. My exposure to and practical experience of primary health care and community development was subsequently consolidated through a Master of Science in International Health. Inspired by personal and professional experience I developed an interest in education, specifically the processes associated with teaching and learning. Migration to Australia in 2000 afforded me the opportunity of an academic position at CQUniversity. Since my appointment I have fulfilled various roles including Program Coordination of a diverse suite of undergraduate and postgraduate programs of study. In 2010 I completed a PhD, this investigation explored and explained the conditions and consequences of learner-learner interaction and knowledge construction in online learning contexts. In 2011 I extended this research through an externally funded, cross- institutional, multidisciplinary project which examined not only learner- learner interaction but also learner-teacher and learner-content interaction in a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
