    Dr Susan Kinnear leads a research program in sustainable regional development at CQUniversity Australia, and is currently the deputy director for the Centre for Environmental Management. Her interests include the nexus between sustainable regional development, regional policy, regional advantage, innovation, environmental management and the challenges of rapid growth in resource-intensive regions. Susan is also vitally interested in regional collaborative practices and the role of regional development agencies.

    Since 2010, Susan has successfully secured and managed contract research projects to the value of almost $AU700,000 for clients across industry, the tertiary sector, and local, state and federal government. 

    In addition to research projects, Susan has undertaken a range postgraduate course writing, research student supervision and tertiary teaching. She currently co-supervises eight doctoral and masters students across freshwater ecology, peri-urban development/sustainable development in regional Australia, regional supply chain analysis and business incubation. 

    Susan holds a PhD in the experimental environmental sciences (aquatic toxicology), a B Science (Biology) (First Class Honours) and a B Environmental Science (with distinction).  

    Susan was named the Queensland Young Achiever of the Year (Environment) in 2007.

    Susan's span of responsibilities at CQUniversity include:

    • Deputy Director and Centre Management Group, Centre for Environmental Management.

    • Leader, Sustainable Regional Development Programme, Centre for Environmental Management.

    • Research Committee of Academic Board - elected representative for Institute of Resource Industries and Sustainability.  

    • Group Leader for the ERA Discipline 16 - Studies in Human Society.

    As a senior research officer with CQUniversity, Susan is also responsible for:

    • Research, project development and investigative support services to management in the development and implementation of multidisciplinary research proposals and tender requests.

    • Development, facilitation and organisation of specialist research projects and other designated initiatives.

    • Establishing and maintaining close relationships with key regional stakeholders, including a broad array of industry and government.
