The PEC provides access to a core of power, control and mechanical engineers and linkages to other disciplines as required to deliver high quality power and energy research. PEC has a strong customer focus and endeavors to build a strong partnership between its researchers and the energy industry through high quality research, continuing professional education and consultancy services. PEC has expertise in remote and rural power supply, power electronics applications in the distribution system, renewable energy integration, railway power systems, power systems harmonics, low-carbon transportation, energy efficiency in industrial, commercial and residential settings.
Research projects are carried out by research academics, professional research staff, project engineers and postgraduate students with support from technicians and software developers. This provides an excellent environment for postgraduate level study and research.
The Centre also offers applied research, technology transfer, and continuing education opportunities to the wider community within and outside the Central Queensland region. The Centre aims at developing state-of-the-art technologies necessary for improving the economy, efficiency and safety of Australia’s energy infrastructure through research, education and innovation.
PEC operates an impressive array of laboratory facilities including 750kVA dedicated AC and 500kW dedicated DC equipped heavy current laboratories.
