Treatment of Acid Mine Drainage - Berkeley Pit, USA Style

The Department of Mines and Energy together with the Centre for Plant & Water Science is pleased to invite all staff, students and interested parties to a presentation by Dr Bob Robins, former Head of the Department of Minerals Engineering at UNSW. The presentation will be held on Rockhampton campus with ISL links to Gladstone. This presentation will be videostreamed and a link will be placed on the CPWS web page (address provided below) following the presentation.

About the Presenter: Dr Bob Robins has spent about 20 years (on-and-off) working on various projects in around the Berkeley Pit at Butte in Montana USA, one of the larger pit lakes of the world being more than 30 times the size of the Mount Morgan Pit. These projects have been sponsored by US EPA as part of their MWTP (Mine Waste Technology Program) at a number of sites in Western USA. The Horseshoe Bend plant was built after a long process in which Dr Robins was involved in the evaluation of alternative methods for treating the acid mine drainage.

Before retirement (!) Dr Robins was Head of the Department of Minerals Engineering at UNSW. He has a personal interest in Mount Morgan Mine site having visited in 1997 and maintained contact since.
