Landfills Likely to Dump Clay Capping, Kartik at the Cusp of Change (click here for full article)
Research by Centre for Plant & Water Science, CQUniversity Australia

Doctoral student Kartik Venkatraman is helping convince urban planners to dump the old practice of capping
city   landfills with clay, in favour of a new technique "phytocappying"   (planting trees on a layer of soil placed over the waste).

Kartik has been monitoring experimental   sites and promoting Phytocapping technology amongst city councils. He   says that phytocapping is a better option than clay capping, and he   expects the trend to be soon picked up throughout Queensland and   Australia.
