Terrestrial Ecology Programme

The Terrestrial Ecology Programme is based at Central Queensland University's Rockhampton Campus. The Programme undertakes research, contract research, consulting and Postgraduate studies mainly in Central Queensland but extends to Townsville in the north and Burnett/Mary Regions in the south. Programme staff and students work with all sectors of the regional community including NRM Regional Groups, the pastoral, industrial and mining sectors and government departments. The programme has experience in the broad areas of wildlife management, mining EIS's and industrial developments. Staff skills and experience include:
  • Flora surveys;
  • Fauna surveys (vertebrates and invertebrates);
  • Freshwater surveys;
  • Management of wildlife in forestry and grazing landscapes, and infrastructure corridors;
  • Management and research of conservation listed flora and fauna;
  • Industrial influences and their impacts on terrestrial ecosystems through biodiversity values and isotopic analysis of major nutrients;
  • Soil and water management through invertebrate assemblages and microbial activity;
  • Pathological testing of plants in the grazing industry.
