Family Services in the Mining Sector: A case study in the Bowen Basin - Middlemount

Research supported by Institute for Sustainable Regional Development, Department of Communities, Anglo Coal (Middlemount)(2009-2010). CQUniversity team includes: Lindsay Greer, Dr Steve Rogerson, Dr Shane Hopkinson, Dr Amanda Shea-Hart, Julie Mann.

Research involved an examination of family services delivery in the mining township of Middlemount in central Queensland. Community surveys and interviews were conducted and recommendation proposed. Existing family services were characterised as stressed due, in part, to the nature of mining shift work and population churn. Recommendations included expanding basic community development activities and further investigation of a regional community service hub model of service delivery.
