Approach to Research

Key features of the Institute's approach to research are:

  • Relevance: ensuring the IHSSR's efforts are directed to issues of importance outside the University;
  • Engagement: working with communities to give people a genuine say in the issues that affect their lives;
  • Multidisciplinary: bringing more than one perspective or approach to bear on critical issues.

The Institute encourages new areas of research. Of particular note are the areas of psychological wellbeing, mental health nursing, family and domestic violence, population based physical activity and problem/pathological gambling.
