Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) Initiative

The Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative will be developed and managed by the Australian Research Council (ARC) as a major funder of public sector research. It will assess research quality within Australia's Higher education institutions using a combination of indicators and expert review by committees comprising experienced, internationally recognised experts.

A complete ERA Overview is available at the Office of Research website.

Other Journal Ranking systems

There are some other journal ranking systems that might be of interest:

  •
  • PAJE Publishing in Academic Journals in Education (produced by the University of Newcastle) is a new resource providing information about 1042 journals which focus on Education. All journals in PAJE are international in focus, are refereed, are published in English, and contain research articles as the entire or part of their regular content. PAJE has the QScore - "a new measure of journal quality specially designed for education journals". The QScore is a "composite measure of journal quality which encompasses the views of Australian and international scholars, the ISI Impact Factor and the internationalisation of the journal's editorial board". CQUni has purchased a copy of PAJE for the Library on CD (it's not available as a web product) and you can borrow it from the Rockhampton Library - the call number is 070.52 8.
  •

There are also 2 subscription products that the Library has that provide measure of journal ranking - however, both of them are somewhat limited in the field of education, especially when it comes to Australian journals

  •
  • Thomson ISI's Journal Citation Reports which provides journal impact factors, and
  •
  • Scopus contains abstracts and references from 18,000 peer-reviewed journals from more than 4,000 publishers worldwide. It provides a Journal Analyzer that allows you to compare up to 10 different journals a variety of parameters: total number of citations, articles published and source influence.
