Abstract

Puppets have been used widely for play and education in a variety of contexts. There is however a dearth of literature that explains any process to guide nurses using puppets in a paediatric context. This presentation will open to explain a pedagogy designed by Associate Professor Kerry Reid-Searl to assist nurses in the use of puppets. The framework has been termed Pup-Ed (KRS simulation). The acronym stand s for P-puppet and professional preparation, U- understanding the learner, P-play in action to suspend disbelief, E- evaluation and D- debrief. The KRS component stands for knowledgeable, realistic and spontaneous simulation. The presentation will then consider some of the experiences of using the technique with character and living puppets in the paediatric context.
