Abstract

The theme of internationalization is important of itself. However, the use of international activity to enhance your teaching or research should not be overlooked, and in this seminar we will explore the financial and other assistance available for travel to Thailand.

Thai Universities and Thai academics want to work with Australian Universities, they want to work with CQU and they need their staff and students to work in English. ASEAN is going to amplify this need as the Thai universities grapple with the need to conduct classes in English and for their students to be able to attend other ASEAN universities. The Thai proclivity for western academics and their need for tuition in English can be used to advantage by CQU academic staff.

This seminar will discuss opportunities for Australian academic staff to use this to mutual advantage to provide them with travel opportunities as well as gaining valuable teaching experience and taking advantage of research opportunities. Additionally, this type of activity can enhance CQU's performance in the internationalization theme without large travel expense.

The presentation will include examples in the context of a light hearted trip report, but will include specifics on how to package your approach to a Thai university, and a discussion on what you can gain out of it.
