The session will highlight some of the key findings of the author's study on international students which includes the social issues such as networking, integration, and other welfare matters which can have an impact on their studies. The session will also include discussion of the mechanisms the students used to cope and what institutions can do to help.
Dr Erlenawati Sawir is Research Fellow, International Education Research Centre, CQUniversity, based in Melbourne. The author of a growing volume of work on international education, Dr Sawir is the co-author (with Marginson, Nyland and Forbes-Mewett) of the recently published and critically acclaimed International Student Security (Cambridge University Press). A former international student in Australia herself, Dr Sawir brings a rare empathy to her subject, especially in her interview regime involving scores of international students.
