How can I change my personal details?
Candidates can change their personal details (address, telephone number and email) by logging onto CQUcentral.
How do I take a Leave of Absence?
Candidates may request a period of leave of absence, not exceeding twelve (12) months, from their approved program of research and study. Candidates must apply using a Application for Leave of Absence for Research Higher Degree Candidates form, endorsed by the principal supervisor. The form should then be lodged with the School of Graduate Research for approval by the Dean, School of Graduate Research.
I’ve been on Leave of Absence, what do I have to do to be enrolled?
Notify in writing the School of Graduate Research of your intention to return from leave. You will then be enrolled into the relevant courses.
What is the due date for a postgraduate research application?
There is no due date for submitting an application to a research higher degree program at CQUniversity.
Why is there a delay in the processing of my research higher degree application?
There is often a delay in this process if your application is submitted without all of the necessary documentation. Ensure you have attached all of the information requested as noted on the checklist near the back of the application for admission form. The duration of the application process is varied due to the availability and workload of the staff who assess your application on its merits before recommending your admission. Please contact the School of Graduate Research if you are worried about the length of time it is taking - keeping in mind the process usually takes about 3-6 weeks.
A progress report assists the University to ensure you are making adequate academic progress in your program of study.
Progress reports are completed bi-annually: by 30 April and 30 September each year. Progress Reports are emailed your CQUni student email account. The report cannot be mailed to any other email account. Once you complete Section A and the Student Meetings with Supervisor sheet, the report is forwarded to the School of Graduate Research who will send it to your principal supervisor. Your supervisor will ensure the appropriate sections are completed in consultation with you and also the Dean of School or Institute Director (as appropriate). It is then lodged with the School of Graduate Research by the due date.
As I am on leave do I still need to hand in my progress report?
Yes, you are required to complete a progress report.
Why is there a delay in the processing of my requests for leave/change of attendance etc?
There is often a delay in this process if your application is submitted without the support of your Principal Supervisor. Delays are also often a result of incomplete forms.Once approved by your Principal Supervisor, the form is forwarded to the School of Graduate Research for approval by the Dean, School of Graduate Research.
I am a full-time RHD student. How much work can I undertake?
Full-time candidates whether they are the recipient of a scholarship or not, can undertake no more than twelve (12) hours work per week. Please refer to the relevant Program Rules on the Policy website.

How do I access my enrolment details?
You can access your enrolment via the Student Portal.
How do I change my enrolment details?
Candidates cannot change their enrolment details. If you believe you are not enrolled in the correct course or in the correct mode, contact the School of Graduate Research for assistance.
What do I have to do to re-enrol?
You need to contact the School of Graduate Research to discuss your re-enrolment.
How do I get my student ID card?
Please contact the Student Business Centre for a student ID card.
How do I obtain a copy of the ethics application?
All information relating to ethical approval is available through the Office of Research website by navigating to Committees and Ethics and clicking on the appropriate ethics area.
How do I find out if my research requires ethics?
There is a low risk form which assists you through a variety of questions to determine whether your research requires ethical clearance.If you are still unsure if you require ethical clearance please contact the Ethics and Compliance Officer on telephone 07 4923 2603. Alternatively your supervisors will also be able to provide you with guidance on whether your research requires ethical approval.

Can I apply for HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP?

What is the RTS funding scheme and is my course covered under this scheme?
The Research Training Scheme (RTS) is a Commonwealth Government tertiary level research funding scheme available to domestic candidates (Australian and New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of Australia), undertaking a postgraduate research program with a minimum 66% research component. Most research higher degree programs offered by CQUniversity are covered under RTS.For more information on this scheme visit the Australian Government Department of Education Science & Training website at:

When are graduation ceremonies held?
A list of graduation dates and places can be found on the Graduation website.
Can I choose to attend a later ceremony?
The Graduation website contains all of the information about your graduation that you could ask for including when they will be conducted each term.
How do I replace my certificate/testamur?
Replacement testamurs will only be issued in accordance with CQU’s Replacement Testamur policy. All enquiries regarding replacement testamurs should be directed to the Rockhampton Graduation Office on: graduation-enquiries@cqu.edu.au.
How do I obtain an academic transcript?
Complete the Request for Academic Transcript form and return to Student Administration. There is a fee associated with obtaining an official transcript.

How do I change from a Masters to a PhD or from one research program to another?
Normally changes occur at time of a successful confirmation of candidature or shortly thereafter. You are required to submit an application for admission form for the program you wish to upgrade to. You do not need to attach most the relevant information again (ie. transcripts, testamur etc) unless your details have changed. You will need to include a research proposal. If you wish to change from one research higher degree program to another you are required to submit an application for admission form for the program you wish to change to. You do not need to attach most of the relevant information again unless your details have changed. You will need to include a research proposal. Please refer to the Guidelines for Change between Masters and Doctoral Research Higher Degree Programs.
Domestic scholarship applications close on 31 October of each year. International scholarship applications close on 30 September of each year.
Can I apply for a scholarship even though I have already started my candidature?
You can apply for a scholarship even though you have already started your candidature, however you will have a reduced term of scholarship. Please contact the School of Graduate Research if you require further information.
If I am awarded a scholarship, am I entitled to relocation expenses?
Some scholarships allow for claims such as removal expenses. You will need to read the Conditions of Award contained in your original scholarship offer or contact the Administrative Officer.
I applied for a scholarship and haven’t had any outcome… what’s happening?
If you have not received any notification from the School of Graduate Research within three (3) months of submitting an application, contact the office for information.
Can I be employed while receiving my research scholarship?
Yes, but no more than twelve (12) hours per week. Please refer to the relevant Program Rules on the Policy website.
Who do I notify if there is a change in my employment hours or my attendance status, or if I am going to take leave?
You must notify the School of Graduate Research in the first instance of any changes to your candidature that may have an effect on your scholarship to ensure you are not overpaid or underpaid. For example, leave, change to mode of attendance, employment status etc. If necessary, you then apply for approval to change your candidature.
You may apply to change your supervisors at any stage in your candidature; please complete the Request for Change to Description of Candidature form.
What if my Principal Supervisor is leaving the University?
You would normally need to nominate a replacement principal supervisor. This could mean your associate supervisor becomes your principal supervisor, or nominating a new principal supervisor. You will need to complete the Request for Change to Description of Candidature form to formalise a change of supervisors.
