Step 3 - Review Entry Requirements

Applicants must check that they satisfy the entry requirements for admission to a Research Higher Degree at CQUniversity Australia. 

Masters by Research

Entry Requirements

A person may be considered for admission to candidature for the Masters degree if the person:

  • holds an honours degree from the University or any other approved institution in a relevant discipline; or
  • holds a three (3) year undergraduate degree and a graduate diploma at a high level of academic performance in a relevant discipline; or
  • holds a three (3) year undergraduate degree at a high level of academic performance in a relevant discipline, plus a minimum of one year's relevant work experience; or 
  • holds a three (3) year undergraduate degree with a credit level Grade Point Average (GPA); or
  • holds a four (4) year undergraduate degree at a high level of academic performance; or
  • holds an alternative qualification deemed by the Panel to be of equivalent scope and standard.

Persons holding only a pass degree, and who do not satisfy any of those criteria specified above, will be required to undertake a Masters qualifying/enabling program, normally of one (1) year's (full-time) duration, as specified in the University's resolution on Masters qualifying programs.

Doctor of Education 

Entry Requirements

A person may be considered for admission to the Doctor of Education program: 

  • if they have not less that five (5) years of professional experience in education; 
  • if they have fulfilled such other requirements as the Committee may determine from time to time; and
  • if they have qualified for the degree of Master of Education (Research), a coursework Masters degree or Bachelor of Learning Management with a minimum of Honours 2A at CQUniversity Australia; or
  • if they have such other qualifications and experience as are considered by the Committee to be equivalent or an adequate substitute for any of the qualifications listed in the dot points above.

Doctor of Philosophy

Entry Requirements

A person may be considered for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy program:

  • if they have been awarded a Masters degree either by research or with a substantial element of research work within it, from a University or any other approved institution; or
  • if they have qualified for the award of a Bachelors degree in an appropriate discipline with first class or second class honours conferred by a University or any other approved institution;
  • if they hold from an institution of tertiary education, qualifications which are deemed by the Board to be equivalent to those prescribed in either of the two dot points listed above.

Doctor of Professional Studies

Entry Requirements

The following criteria are those utilised to define if a student is eligible for admission. It is essential that students supply sufficient information with their application form to enable assessment to occur quickly. Lack of information/documentation will incur delays in the assessment process.

Educational Requirements 

Applicants must meet one of these criteria:

1. 

a) a Masters degree or a qualification deemed to be equivalent to a Masters degree of an Australian University; and

b) Significant professional employment experience to the satisfaction of the Committee; 

OR

2. 

a combination of training and relevant professional experience deemed by the Committee to be the equivalent of an Australian Masters degree. 

NOTE: International applicants are required to meet the University's English entry requirements.
