For Research in the Great Barrier Reef

Who needs to apply?

If your research or teaching involves limited impact research in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park you will need to obtain authorisation from Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation).  Authorisation must be sought from the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) BEFORE the project commences.

What is limited impact research?

The definition of limited impact research can be located on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park website:  http://www.gbrmpa.gov.au/zoning-permits-and-plans/permits/research-permits-advice-to-researchers

What if my research is not limited impact research?

If your research does not fall under the 'limited impact' research category, you will be required to apply for a permit directly to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.

Who can help with my application?

The Ethics and Compliance Officer is the first point of contact. You can also speak with your supervisor (if applicable).

What should I submit with the application?

One original signed application. Please note applications submitted for approval without the required signatory will not be accepted under any circumstances.
