Central Queensland
UNIVERSITY
Where Students Come First.
If you are thinking about working with us, you probably have a lot of questions. We have tried to organize the information most people find useful.
There are three ways you can lodge your application for a particular position with us at CQU: by email, by post, or by hand.
This is our preferred option. If you use this method then we ask that you send a brief email message to this address, and include an attachment that contains the following:
Also, please note these points:
If we need them at a later stage we will specifically ask you for certified copies.
If you are going to use traditional mail, then please make sure your application reaches this address, Appointments Manager, Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Qld. 4702, no later than the specified close date. In the case of hand delivery, your application can be taken to the Appointments Section, Staff & Student Services, Building 2, Central Queensland University, Rockhampton Campus. Regardless of the delivery method, your application should contain the following:
Also, please note these points:
Finally, it's important for you to know that CQU doesn't normally acknowledge receipt of applications. However, we do notify all applicants of the outcome of the selection process.
In regard to this, if you are a current CQU staff member, should read the section 'Appeals by Internal Applicants'.
At CQU we encourage diversity in
the workplace and we welcome applications from any suitably qualified
people. As you might expect, the University is an Equal Opportunity
Employer, and it has an effective Affirmative Action for Women Policy.
Of course, lifestyle, the workplace, and the actual job are
all important considerations when you're thinking of applying for a
position, but so too is the salary that goes with the job. You can find
the current salary levels in our current Enterprise Barganing Agreement
This is the all-important agreement between CQU and its
employees regarding a whole range of issues from salaries to
outsourcing of work, and from superannuation to gender balance on
committees. If you are considering applying for a job with us, then you
might find it helpful to look over the appropriate EBA - there's a General
Staff EBA and an Academic
Staff EBA. They're both quite large documents (around 100 pages
each) so they might take a while to download - but it will be worth it.
If you are currently employed by CQU and you apply for a
different position at the University, then you may have access to the
appeal procedure described in Clause 5 of the CQU Recruitment Selection
Procedures under the heading 'Appeal
Procedure by Internal Applicants'. It is important that you are
aware that this notice is the only advice you will receive of your
entitlement to appeal on any procedural irregularity during the
recruitment selection process in respect to the position. In the event
that you are not short-listed for an interview, you are entitled to
lodge an appeal, up to and including two working days from the date you
are notified of this outcome. In the event you are interviewed for the
above position, appeals can be lodged up to and including two working
days after the date of the interview. Please note that appeals can only
be lodged against a procedural irregularity and not against an
unsuccessful outcome.
As with any university, CQU has a great number of policies
that cover a wide range of interests and activities. We haven't listed
them all here - that would be too cumbersome - but we have provided
links to those that we think you as a prospective staff member might be
interested in. You'll probably be able to track down any others by
examining the Policies and
Procedures Manual or by visiting what you think is the most
relevant part of the University's website, and following the links. The
general search facility can also be very helpful. Below is the list we
have prepared (some have already been referred to):
Often, the information provided about an advertised position
is sufficient to satisfy potential applicants. However, if you want to
know more than is provided in the position description, then the same
document usually contains the name and contact details of a person who
is familiar with the requirements of the position. If you have
questions about the position that you're interested in then please get
in touch with this person (telephone or email is the most common means)
and make you enquiries. Other contacts that may be useful to you can be
found here.
