Central Queensland
UNIVERSITY
Where Students Come First.
There are many reasons to work for CQU. Three set us apart
One of the outstanding features of CQU is its multicampus
structure. Currently we have traditional-style campuses in Bundaberg, Emerald, Gladstone, Mackay, and Rockhampton;
international campuses (mainly for international students) in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney, and Suva (Fiji); and
'overseas delivery sites' in Hong Kong, and Singapore. Also, many of our
students study by distance education mode. These students rarely - if
ever - attend any campus at all. What all this means for you if you're
considering a position with CQU is that, if successful, you will be
joining one of the most diverse and progressive universities in the
world. We may not be the largest or the most prestigious, but we're one
of the most dynamic, and our record speaks for itself. Regardless of
where they're located, our campus environments are well known for their
friendly and responsive nature. The other attractions - such as
climate, communities, facilities, and surroundings are simply bonuses.
So what's so special about working for CQU? It would be
simplistic - and probably untrue - to suggest that every part of the
University provides an ideal workplace. But the policies and practices
that have evolved (and continue to evolve) certainly aim for that
ideal. Added to this is the ethos that pervades the whole organization
- one where caring for others is of great importance. The University's
motto, which is taken very seriously, is 'Where Students Come First'.
However, this supportive attitude is also evident in the way the
University, as an employer, works with staff, and how staff treat and
relate to each other.
If you are an administrative worker, then you will probably know that a university requires a small army of clerks, accountants, office staff, policy developers, and various other specialists to see that the organization operates efficiently. CQU is no different in this regard to other institutions of higher education, and many people have found great job satisfaction in these fields at our University. The same applies for the many non-administrative general staff such as maintenance workers, gardeners, technical specialists, and tradespersons.
Academic workers are, of course, central to the function of universities. The diverse nature of CQU's teaching activities - many campuses, many programs, on-campus teaching, distance education - means that opportunities to innovate and evolve new approaches to instruction are widely available. As you would expect of a dynamic university, research is also a major activity for many of CQU's academic staff. We have eight research centres, a wide range of research expertise, and a deputy vice-chancellor and staff whose entire focus is on encouraging and supporting research.
