Mackay Regional Collection

The Mackay Regional Collection consists of material acquired by purchase or donation that deals with some aspect of the Mackay and surrounding region including the; Pioneer Valley, Whitsundays, and the Hinterland. 

The Mackay Regional Collection can only be used within the library during opening hours, but it is available for anyone interested in researching the region, not just staff and students of the university.

Scope of the collection

The library aims to collect the following types of resources:

  • Mackay Regional Collection list (collection of uncatalogued historical resources)
  • monographs on topics such as histories, environmental studies, and industries such as the sugar and mining industries etc.
  • literary works (poetry, drama, fiction, short stories), biographies and autobiographies, which are either:
    • created by a person living in the Mackay region at time of writing, or
    • deal substantially with the region
  • musical works composed or performed by a person living in the Mackay region at the time , or are written about the region 
  • annual reports, and other information, of major business, social or cultural organisations ,if of historical value or not already available online
  • works by CQUniversity Mackay Campus staff or research students, and works about the Mackay Campus; including the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music
  • audio-visual material such as CDs and DVDs dealing with any of the above or of special interest to the region
  • other material including maps, posters, photographs, theatre programs, catalogues may be collected at the discretion of the Mackay Campus Library Manager

The Mackay Regional Collection works in conjunction with other collections, and where donations can't be housed in the library a recommendation may be made that they be offered to other collections, such as

  • other Central Queensland University campuses - Capricornia Central Queensland Collection at Rockhampton, and smaller local collections at Gladstone and Bundaberg
  • regional collections - local history collections and museums run by local Councils or other organisations.
