Vision: Making a Cultural Difference

The CQUniversity Mackay Library Society is a "friends of the library" volunteer group which provides opportunities for members to assist and support the Mackay Campus Library. 

The Library Society promotes the knowledge and enjoyment of books, contributes to the growth of the library by providing equipment to encourage students use of the library, and aims to enhance the collection by seeking out and acquiring any manuscripts, books, photographs, prints, paintings or other materials.

In 2007, the CQUniversity Mackay Library Society formed a subsidiary group called Film & Arts, Mackay Inc. (FAM) to enhance the ability to apply for grants and other funding. The Office of Fair Trading website provides information regarding incorporation. Membership of the Library Society automatically enrols you as a member of Film & Arts, Mackay Inc.

The Library Society/FAM offers a variety of cultural events each year including:

• Monthly film evenings
• Bi-monthly book club evenings
• Special guest presenters
• Second-hand book sale
• Trivia nights
• Special Film Events

Membership fee per annum

$25.00 per person

Gold Membership - $80 per person

• Reduced film admission price at monthly FAM film nights
• Participate in film selection
• Receive information on current and upcoming events
• 5% discount at Burp Eat Drink Restaurant
• 10% discount on novels at the CQU Mackay Bookshop (excluding set texts)
• 10% discount at Collins Bookshop, Sydney Street Markets
• 5% discount at Oscar's on Sydney Cafe and Bar 
• Concession price admission to the Sydney Travelling Film Festivals at BCC
• Gold Membership also entitles you to free admission to films on FAM club nights (excluding festivals and special events)
  

So what is expected of you if you become a mamber of CQUniversity Library Friends?

Because you are a volunteer, you can choose to conntribute as much or as little as you wish to the Library Friends' team. Some of the tasks that volunteers currently take part in include:

• Being part of the Library Friends committee - your opinion is valuable to us!
• Photography - keeping a record of our activities
• Writing short promotional articles for local newspapers
• Helping organise or selling books at the annual booksale
• Joining the Regional Collection Preservation Group to assist with the organisation and preservation of the library's historical items
• Helping out on film nights by selling tickets or helping the FAM team prepare supper. Or just joining us to enjoy the movie!
