But with his newfound riches and long afternoons to kill, Marco's casual gambling habit starts to become an addiction.

Loosely adapted from Baldini's autobiographical book Il giocatore (The Player), this elegant, acidic comedy offers an engaging, self-ironic commentary as it traces the highs and lows of Baldini's double existence, unfolding against a convincing backdrop of life during the penultimate decade of the 20th century.

Before long, Gianni finds himself trying to take care of four very strong-willed old ladies.

Reminiscent at times of the great Ealing comedy, THE LADYKILLERS, the disarmingly modest movie delights in the ways in which the beleaguered hero has to deal with the feisty old women left in his care. (David Stratton At the movies)

Her Whole Life Ahead is a mix of true-to-life types with over-the-top characters while maintaining breakneck comic pacing. The cast includes Sabrina Ferilli as the fanatical call-centre manager.

The Soul Kitchen has certainly seen better days - it's not exactly buzzing, and Wilhelmsburg, the part of town where the restaurant is, is much too far away the hip, bustling atmosphere at the heart of Hamburg. Zinos tries to sell the restaurant and three weeks to go before the closure pure anarchy breaks out in the Soul Kitchen and the guests like it. Rumours of the cult Soul Kitchen spread right around Hamburg. At the very last party, Zinos realises it was a mistake to sell the restaurant. When he finds out it's going to be torn down to make way for a shopping mall, he moves heaven and earth to get the Soul Kitchen back...

This immigrant drama, with wonderful performances by the actors, is a strong story which uses documentary austerity and minimalist style to create a great emotional impact
