Port Curtis Environmental Collection

Port Curtis is located on the Central Queensland coast near the Tropic of Capricorn. The region comprises the coastal area east of the Calliope and Dawson ranges, and includes Gladstone City, Calliope Shire and part of Miriam Vale Shire.

Clientele served

The Port Curtis Environmental Collection is available for use in the Gladstone Campus Library and can be accessed by all CQUniversity staff and students. Other interested parties in the collection are research staff and postgraduate students attached to the Centre for Environmental Management, affiliated researchers with the Coastal Zone CRC, interested stakeholders from business and industry in the Port Curtis and Gladstone Harbour regions and interested general public.

The Collection

The development of the Port Curtis Environmental Collection is co-ordinated by the Gladstone Campus Library Manager. In collaboration with staff from the Centre for Environmental Management and other interested parties, suggestions are made for purchase, and donations evaluated for inclusion in the collection.

Donated material forms a large part of this collection and will be gratefully accepted.

Items collected include published material:

  • Environmental impact assessments
  • Local planning documents
  • Material relevant to harbour and coastal environments
  • Any other unpublished documents and reports, donated by major stakeholders involved in the environmental monitoring and assessment of the Port Curtis region.
  • Journal literature is also collected in the form of research articles relevant to coastal zone monitoring and environmental impacts. These articles are not limited to local research but can include material published on other habitats worldwide that are similar in structure and environment to the Port Curtis region.
  • Research reports, annual reports, statistical reports of businesses, organisations, etc, their research centres, faculties, departments etc. (other than libraries).
  • Newsletters of local organisations and businesses and local government departments may be catalogued and included in the collection depending on their relevance.
  • Gratis materials - arrangements may be made with organisations for the Library to be placed on a mailing list to receive material when it is published, for example Department of Natural Resources' publications on the Port Curtis region.

"Grey" literature may also be collected. This will usually be in the form of unpublished reports and working papers produced by the local stakeholders. This type of material is usually solicited by researchers within the University and is accepted as part of the Port Curtis Environmental Collection. This type of donated material will have already been vetted for any commercial "in confidence" content.
