Document Delivery for Staff and Research Higher Degree Students

CQUniversity Library supports researchers by providing a document delivery service funded by Researchdoc. Researchers include:

  • staff approved as those undertaking research by the Association Dean (Research and Innovation) or Head of Research Centre
  • students enrolled in a higher degree research program.

Students enrolled in undergraduate, honours and coursework masters programs should discuss their needs with the relevant Liaison Librarian or Campus Manager. Where suitable material can not be located in the collection, a document delivery request will be approved.

Frequently asked questions

What is Researchdoc?

Researchdoc (supported by University research funds) aims to provide researchers access to the information sources they need. This is achieved through the purchase of indexing and full text databases and the provision of an interlibrary loan and document delivery service. The interlibrary loan and document delivery service provides CQUniversity researchers access to information sources the library does not hold. Items are supplied from within Australia or if necessary from overseas. Some items are supplied as loans, while others are supplied as copies you can keep.

Am I eligible for this service?

Eligible students and staff include

  • research higher degree students
  • professional doctorate students
  • academic and research staff who have contributed to the Research Composite Index over the last two years or have demonstrated the potential to do so

How do I register?

Registration lasts for one calendar year. You need to re-apply for Researchdoc each year.

New application to register

Print out the Staff or Student Researchdoc Registration form and obtain the signature of the appropriate person as shown on the form.

Return your completed signed form to the Liaison Librarian - Research. This original application form must be submitted in print format.

Re-application to register

If you have registered for Researchdoc previously you need to complete the staff or student online re-application form.

Please contact the Liaison Librarian- Research if you have any queries.

What can I request?

You can request any item related to your research if it is not held by CQUniversity Library. You may not request a "rush" item. If the request is urgent alternate funding (to researchdoc) must be provided. More information on requesting items through Researchdoc is available.

All requests are subject to the provisions of the Copyright Act 1968.

In the case of fair dealing for the purposes of "research or study", the Copyright Act specifically provides that it is "fair dealing" to copy:

  • one article contained in a single journal issue;
  • two or more articles contained in a single journal issue, if the articles relate to the same area of research or to the same course of study;
  • from a book of at least 10 pages
    • 10% of the total number of pages; or
    • where the work is divided into chapters, the whole or part of a single chapter, even if that one chapter exceeds 10% of the pages.
  • 10% of the number of words in a work which is in an electronic format.

How do I submit a request?

Before submitting a document delivery request you must check the library catalogue.

To place a request use the relevant online form.

Held at CQUniversity Library but at a different campus

Not held at CQUniversity

How do I access databases not subscribed to by the library?

While Researchdoc funds the purchase of subscriptions to a number of databases to meet the needs of researchers at CQUniversity, some funds have also been set aside for librarian-mediated online searching of databases needed by researchers but not subscribed to by CQUniversity. Please contact your Liaison Librarian to discuss your needs.

How long does it take for a request to be filled?

Whenever possible, document suppliers are selected to ensure speedy delivery. Many articles are supplied within 48 hours with some requests taking 5 days.

Most loan requests are filled within 5-10 days. Speed of delivery can be effected by the location of the supplying library and whether the item is already on loan. Some difficult to locate items may take several weeks.
