What are Open Access Resources
E-prints and Institutional Repositories
Open access resources are publications that have "free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other then those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself". (Budapest Open Access Initiative)
There are a growing number of open access journals. Some of the largest collections are listed below:
Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) - Lists over 1500 open access journals of which 380 can be searched to article level.
Highwire Press - Highwire press is a division of the Stanford University Libraries, which produces the online versions of high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly content.
Public Library of Science - The Public library of Science (PLoS) is a non-profit organization of scientists and physicians committed to making the world's scientific and medical literature a public resource.
BioMed Central Journals - BioMed Central is an independent publishing house committed to providing immediate free access to peer-reviewed biomedical research.
PubMed Central - A searchable database for open access journals.
Free Medical Journals - this site is dedicated to the promotion of free access to medical journals over the internet.
You can find if there are open access journals in your discipline by performing a general web search combining "open access journal" with your area of interest.
For example perform a Google search for "open access journal" AND "physics"
E-prints are digital preprints or post prints of journal articles, theses, conference papers, chapters of books, or books freely available online.
These are commonly found on authors personal websites, disciplinary archives, and institutional repositories.
CQUniversity's repository is called ACQUIRE.

OAISter - OAIster serves as a search portal for digital collections of electronic books, online journals, audio and image files, and movies provided by the research library community. It searches across more than 300 separate collections, including arXiv, CiteBase, ANU ePrints, ePrints@UQ and others.
Directory of Open Access Repositories (Open DOAR) - OpenDOAR is a directory of academic open access repositories.
CiteBase - CiteBase is a trial service that allows researchers to search across free, full-text research literature ePrint archives, with results ranked according to criteria such as citation impact.
All Academic - All Academic provides electronic versions of academic writings and research.
To locate other e-prints or institutional repositories perform a web search combining eprints, archive, or repository with your discipline area or institution.
