CQUniversity Mobile Phones

The Information Technology Directorate (ITD) purchases staff mobile phones on behalf of each Faculty and Division. Each phone is purchased outright and becomes the Faculty's or Division's property and responsibility.

How to order a Mobile Phone?

Staff can request a new mobile phone by completing this order form (doc file) and sending it to the ITD Service Centre with the following information:

  1. Written approval from their supervisor and financial delegate for the purchase and set up of a new phone and/ or ongoing costs.
  2. Model of the mobile phone to be purchased (if required).
  3. A cost code for the purchase of the mobile phone.
  4. If staff do not already have a CQUniversity mobile please specify:
    • That a new mobile number will need to be established.
    • The user name for the mobile.
This does not need to be a specific person; it can be a position title or department.
    • The cost code for the ongoing monthly phones charges.
  5. Staff also have the option of establishing a data plan if they would like to access the internet via their mobile phone. Click here to view the data plans available for University-owned mobile phones.

Agreement with Telstra

CQUniversity has a corporate agreement with Telstra regarding the supply of mobile phones and associated services. The use of mobile phones provided by CQUniversity is governed by the Mobile Telephone Policy.

Monthly Fees

All mobile phones that are provided to CQUniversity staff are on a standard corporate plan with a monthly access fee of $10 per month. This includes up to $10 of calls and text messages per month. All other call charges are added to this standard monthly fee.

Standard Call Costs

  • No charge when calling another CQUniversity mobile phone.
  • Calls to Australian fixed or mobile numbers: 10.9cents/ 30 seconds (charged per second).
  • SMS(text message) up to 160 characters: 17.27 cents per SMS.
  • No connection fees apply for voicemail calls to Australian fixed or mobile numbers.

International Roaming

International roaming is not initially activated on CQUniversity mobile phones. If staff are travelling overseas for University business, they will need approval from their supervisor and financial delegate to activate international roaming. To activate international roaming please contact the ITD Service Centre.

Please note that overseas call costs are significantly higher than in Australia. Indicative call costs from the destination country are available on this Telstra International Roaming web page.

Data usage (internet access) costs whilst overseas are also extremely high and should be avoided or kept to a minimum. It is recommended that staff with mobiles that automatically sync to an internet connection be turned off prior to their departure to minimise data usage costs.
