Barbara Ferman is a Professor of Political Science at Temple University and founder and director of the University Community Collaborative of Philadelphia, a Temple University based initiative that works with community-based and youth organizations providing research, capacity building, and programming activities.  She has published several books and numerous articles on urban politics and policy, community development, housing, racial integration, and youth employment policy. Her current work focuses on issues of youth civic engagement and the university as a civic actor.  As director of the UCCP, Ferman has raised over $4 million for research and programming activities from public and private sources at the local, state and national levels.  She has over 20 years experience working with community based and other nonprofit organizations in Philadelphia, Chicago and New York City. She has conducted workshops and trainings and provided consulting services for educators, administrators, students, and community, government and nonprofit leaders.  She also served as one of three evaluators for the Ford Foundation's national community organizing initiative, a six year project spanning five different locations in the U.S.
