Commonwealth Support & HECS-HELP

Commonwealth supported students contribute to the cost of their higher education through a Student Contribution. The Commonwealth government contributes additional funds (Commonwealth contribution), direct to the University, for each student in a Commonwealth supported place.

You are eligible to be Commonwealth supported if you are:

  • an Australian citizen; or
  • a New Zealand citizen who will be resident in Australia for the duration of your unit; or
  • the holder of a permanent visa, including a permanent humanitarian visa, who will be resident in Australia for the duration of your unit.

Commonwealth supported places are available in all undergraduate and some postgraduate programs.

Your Letter of Offer will advise if you have been offered a Commonwealth supported place.

If you have been offered a Commonwealth supported place, you MUST submit to CQUniversity a Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP form. The form is available online through CQUcentral. A paper copy can be mailed to you on request. Please contact the Student Business Centre.

Failure to submit a valid form by the census date of the term in which it is to take effect means YOUR ENROLMENT WILL BE CANCELLED. You should read the Information for Commonwealth supported students booklet before completing the form. This booklet was sent to you in your offer pack. The booklet is also available online at http://studyassist.gov.au/sites/studyassist/helpfulresources/pages/publications

Your Student Contribution will be calculated each term on the basis of your enrolment. Fee Notices can be accessed online at CQUcentral - Student Centre - Finances - Financial Notices. Paper copies are not issued by the University. The due date for payment is detailed on the Fee Notice. The options available to pay your student contribution will depend on your citizenship or residency status. If you are eligible, HECS-HELP helps you pay your Student Contribution, either with a loan for all or part of your Student Contribution or a discount for upfront payments of $500 or more. Full information about HECS-HELP is contained in the Information for Commonwealth supported students booklet.

IMPORTANT: Please read the INFORMATION FOR COMMONWEALTH SUPPORTED STUDENTS booklet for full information on Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP. The booklet is accessible at http://studyassist.gov.au/sites/studyassist/helpfulresources/pages/publications

PLEASE NOTE: CQUniversity does not enrol Commonwealth supported students at off-shore delivery sites
