Please bring the following to your appointment
The following policies have been established to ensure that as many students as possible can access the service.
The aim of the LSU is to provide academic support for students, and in particular to help students develop their writing, referencing and editing skills. Students can book an appointment to work with a learning skills teacher for individual or small group tuition.
Appointments can be booked for 30 minutes or 1 hour. Please note - there is a booking limit of 1 hour per week.
To make an appointment, you can:
When you attend an LSU appointment, bring your course profile and your assignment (notes/ draft form). If you have to cancel an appointment, please visit, phone or email the LSU. Please try to cancel at least 24 hours in advance if possible as your appointment can then be given to another student who needs help.
Students can work with learning skills advisors either individually or on a group basis. You can have up to one hour with the advisors per week. Attendance at group sessions however is unlimited. Please see LSU staff for the current timetable and check for available group sessions.
All individual appointments should be booked in advance either in person, over the phone or by email. If students are unable to attend an appointment, they are expected to notify the Learning Skills Unit prior to that appointment time.
Students should also note that the Learning Skills Unit has a 48-hour policy in regards to working with students. Staff will not take an initial appointment with a student for an assignment if it is due that same day or the next. So book in advance!

To make an appointment, you can:
Appointments are for 30 minutes or 1 hour.
In 1 appointment your LSU tutor will check 1 assignment for:
(Please note: this is a teaching and learning unit where we try to help you develop your writing and editing skills. We are teachers, not editors.)
We can also discuss the assignment question and possible plans, help with oral presentations and give you advice about study techniques for exams.
Please bring your course profile and assignment to your appointment.
Please do not use the above e-mail address for making or cancelling appointments or to send in your assignment drafts to us. Instead, please call us or come in person.
It is best to organise an appointment so it is at least 2 or 3 days before your assignment is due (not the day it is due). This will give you time to edit and develop your work after it has been checked.
Please note the LSU does get very busy, particularly during those weeks when most students' assignments are due (weeks 5,6,11 and 12). Therefore, try to contact the LSU early - at least 2 weeks before you want your appointment. If no appointment times are available for the time you want, we will enter your name on a waiting list and contact you if there is a cancellation.
Suggestion: write down all assignment due dates in your diary now, then make your first 3 appointments for the semester.
If you have to cancel an appointment, please phone, email or visit the LSU to let us know (24 hours in advance if possible). We can then give your appointment to another student who needs our help.
