Glossary of Terms

  • Conferral, Confer Date
    Confer Date is the date on which you are officially conferred with your award.This date will be printed on your testamur (certificate) and academic history.

  • Certification Date
    This is the date the University releases your official results

  • Graduand
    A person about to receive an academic degree.

  • Graduate
    A person who has been awarded an academic degree.

  • Interim Award
    An Interim Award must be taken at the time you have satisfied the requirements for the award. Interim Awards cannot be given retrospectively. You must apply for an Interim Award prior to Certification Date .

  • Testamur
    Another term for the certificate.

  • Doff
    A graduand is required to "doff" or tip one's motraboard (hat) in salutation as a mark of respect.

  • Negative Service Indicator (NSI)
    All graduands must be clear of debt to the University to attend a Graduation Ceremony. This includes any outstanding fines or payments due to the library or in relation to your fees. A testamur (or official transcript) will not be released until all outstanding monies are paid to the University. A Negative Service Indicator (NSI) is placed on student recors that are not clear of debt.

  • Expected Completion Term (ECT)
    EGT stands for Expected Completion Term. Your ECT is located on E-rolment, For Graduands, Graduation Term Panel. You must complete your ECT during each enrolment period
