I have just returned to CQUniversity after having a break for four years. Before I left, I was registered with the Student Support Centre - do I need to register again?
Yes, it is important to register with Disability Services each year that you are enrolled at CQUniversity. Registrations do not roll over from one year to the next, as this ensures that your details are the most up-to-date at all times.
I am only doing one course, it's probably not worth registering is it?
Regardless of whether you are doing a part time or full time study load, it is important to make the Student Support Centre aware of your disability or medical condition. Although you may not necessarily require any specific support initially, there may be times in the future where you will require assistance.
I'm a FLEX student and not located near a campus- can I still register?
All students, regardless of their mode of study, are entitled to the same level of support thus it is very important to register even if you are not on campus. Although the technology and equipment resources are difficult to access being a FLEX student, the Disability Support Service can discuss alternative options with you.
I am pregnant and I'm worried about how I will get through an exam without a break - are any adjustments able to be made?
The Disability Support Service is not just for people with disabilities, but also those with temporary medical conditions such as pregnancy. We understand that pregnancy can affect certain aspects of your study, particularly in exam periods, and we aim to accommodate accordingly. Examples of accommodations in exams for pregnant students are additional rest breaks and the ability to bring in pillows or lumbar support chairs.
I registered last year and none of my details have changed. Do I have to register again this year?
Registrations do not roll over from one year to the next and therefore it is important to continue to register if you require ongoing support and assistance from the Student Support Centre. Even if your details remain the same as your previous registration, it is important that we have a record of your current situation.
Will my lecturer/course-coordinator know I am registered with Disability Services?
All medical details provided to the Student Support Centre remain confidential and are not able to be accessed by a third party, unless authorised by the student to do so.
I have had an Intake interview and already have a Disability Support Plan in place - can I make any changes to the recommendations made?
As the impact of your condition changes, so too may the level of assistance you require. Changes can be made to your Disability Support Plan throughout Term, however we ask that you keep in mind that we generally can not change or add exam accommodations any later than 4 weeks prior to exams.
Can you organise assignment extensions or deferred exams on my behalf?
Assignment extensions and deferred exams need to be requested via your Faculty as they are responsible for the policies and procedures and the requirements of the course you are undertaking. We can, however, provide support via our support staff who can discuss ways to meet deadlines, manage your time and suggest avenues of assistance.
I am registered for Disability Services and have exams coming up - do I need to do anything to make sure that my accommodations are in place?
It is important that you check your exam schedule and any relevant exam accommodations at least 3 weeks prior to exams. This allows sufficient time for any changes to be made to your schedule and accommodations and ensures that everything is in place prior to the examination period. To check your exam schedule/accommodations, please visit your CQUCentral Student Services Centre.
Where can I find a copy of my Support Plan and any accommodations I have in place?
Your Disability Support Plan is a brief outline of your registration details and any accommodations and/or assistive services put in place. You will be emailed a copy of your Disability Support Plan at your initial registration, as well as an updated copy if any adjustments are made throughout the year. Please note that all email correspondence is forwarded to your Student Email Address.
