Frequently Asked Questions - MAP Stages 2 & 3

What happens if I don’t submit the MAP Stage 2 Show Cause Student Response within the 10 days?

Your enrolment will be cancelled. Note if you are an international student you are also required to participate in an interview.

If I submit a MAP Stage 2 Show Cause Student Response form and I am successful, am I removed from the MAP process?

No. You will sit on a ‘MAP Stage 2 successful’ status. If you do not achieve satisfactory academic progress in your next term or the term after you will proceed to MAP Stage 3: Intent to Cancel.
However, if at any stage you demonstrate satisfactory academic progress for 2 consecutive terms, you will be removed from the MAP process.

I’m at MAP Stage 2, I’ve already put in an application for withdrawal without academic penalty, do I still have to submit a Show Cause Student Response?

Yes, and this is extremely important because if you do not submit this form you will proceed to MAP Stage 3 and your enrolment will be cancelled.
The two forms have different purposes. When you submit a Withdrawal Without Academic Penalty form you are applying to have your academic penalty/penalties removed from your transcript. When you submit your Show Cause form you are telling us your reasons as to why you should be able to continue with your enrolment.

How did I get to a MAP Stage 3?

Either you have not responded to your MAP Stage 2 notification by submitting a Show Cause Student Response, or you did respond but you were unsuccessful.
If you were successful, your outcome letter will inform you that you need to achieve satisfactory academic progress for two consecutive terms or you will proceed to MAP Stage 3, so this may also be why you have progressed to a MAP Stage 3.

Can I appeal my MAP Stage 3?

Yes, but you can only appeal the process. You can use personal reasons at MAP Stage 2, but not MAP Stage 3. Please see the Appeal Application form for more information.

My enrolment has been cancelled. When can I recommence study?

You can recommence study after 12 months. The 12 month period begins at the end of the last term you are enrolled. For example, if your last term of enrolment was Term 1 2012, you are eligible to reapply for study in Term 2 2013.
