Audition Requirements

Application process

Applying for entry into the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music is a three step process.

Conservatorium application

CQUniversity's Conservatorium of Music takes pride in its friendly atmosphere and helpful understanding staff. Our aim is to make the admission process as simple and straight forward as possible.

Most of the information we require in order to register you for an audition can be entered into the online application form. Pay careful attention to the boxes marked with a red asterisk (*), as your application cannot be processed without providing this important information. If you require assistance to complete the online application form please contact the Music and Theatre Administrator by email at musicandtheatre@cqu.edu.au or phone on 4940 7801.

After you complete the online application you will be contacted about presenting an audition.

Audition information

For each of the degree programs and their various specialisations there are varying audition requirements. Click here to see each programs audition information. Feel free to contact us if you have questions about the audition process.

The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC)

In addition to completing an application to the Conservatorium, all applicants must also apply to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). QTAC governs the place offerings to programs at universities in Queensland.

Other important information

Application deadlines apply for entry into CQCM programs.

Prior to auditions applicants are required to submit some supporting documentation, such as a CV and for Bachelor of Theatre applicants a doctors certificate (see audition information for specifics). Please forward this documentation to us via email or by mail.
Under normal circumstances applicants are formally notified of audition result within three weeks of undertaking an audition.

DVD auditions

The following information is for applicants auditioning by DVD.

While CQ University prefers people to audition in person, you may audition by DVD when this is not possible. The following requirements must be followed in when auditioning by DVD.

  1. The DVD must be filmed in an appropriate rehearsal or performance space with careful attention given to obtaining the best quality image and sound;
  2. Please ensure that you are fully visible in the camera frame. It is also necessary to ensure that your hand (instrumentalists) and torso (singers) is clearly visible;
  3. The DVD should begin with the applicant giving their name, age and stating why you particularly wish to study music at CQUniversity (Australia);
  4. The audition material must conform to the same requirements as for in-person auditions.

International Students

You will be required to complete an audition for entry into CQCM programs. Please refer to the section above regarding DVD auditions and submit your completed video-taped audition together with your written application materials by post to CQCM.
