General Technical Theatre Information

To gain entry into The Bachelor of Theatre requires that you make a separate application to both to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) and to CQUniversity via our online application form. Acceptance into the program pathway of your choice is based solely upon a successful interview outcome.
Places within the Technical Theatre specialisation of the Bachelor of Theatre are strictly limited. Admission to the program is gained through an interview process. Interviews are held annually in Mackay, Rockhampton, Brisbane and other areas as required. Applicants who are unable, for whatever reason, to attend the interview dates for each respective city on the advertised dates, are permitted to make an electronic submission by DVD. As part of the interview consideration is given to:

• Estimation of a commitment to becoming a professional theatre worker
• Determining the extent to which training will reveal the full potential of the individual
• Potential to be a theatre practitioner who displays overt traits of commitment and imagination

Specific Technical Theatre Interview requirements

At the start of the interview, applicants should introduce themselves, provide a current curriculum vitae and tell the panel about how and why theatre is important in their lives. The panel will ask some follow-up questions based on the information you provide.

When will I know the outcome of my interview and how will you contact me?

For applicants who apply and attend an interview within the set interview period you will receive your results via the post in late November or early December. Late applicants will receive results 1 to 2 weeks after their interview or submission of DVD.

Whereas CQU prefers to interview applicants in person, where this is neither practicable nor possible, a presentation by DVD is acceptable. The following requirements must be followed in respect to DVD presentations:

1. Please ensure that you are fully visible in the camera frame.
2. The DVD should begin with the applicant giving their name, age and stating why they particularly wish to study technical theatre at CQUniversity (Australia) and providing information on past experience.
