Offered in Distance Education Only
To gain entry into the Bachelor of Music requires that you make a separate application to both to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) and to CQUniversity via our online application form. Acceptance into the program pathway of your choice is based solely upon a successful audition outcome.
Places within the Music Studies specialisation of the Bachelor of Music are strictly limited. Admission to the program is gained through an audition and interview process. Auditions are held annually in Mackay, Rockhampton, Brisbane, and other locations as required. Applicants who are unable, for whatever reason, to attend the audition dates for each respective city on the advertised dates, are permitted to audition by DVD.
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled audition and ensure that you are adequately warmed-up.
This program allows students in any music genre to study a Bachelor of Music degree in distance education mode (flexible delivery). The program does not provide individual tuition in your instrument, but you are expected to develop a number of creative projects through your degree, and this audition allows you to demonstrate your potential to fulfill these creative projects under the supervision of CQUniversity staff. The degree is flexible to allow students to pursue both individual and group creative projects through the course of their studies.
At the start of the audition applicants will be asked to perform two contrasting works on your instrument or voice. These can be in any style, but applicants should aim to choose works that demonstrate their technical and musical ability.
After the performance part of the audition, there will be a short interview where applicants should introduce themselves and tell the panel about how and why they wish to pursue a career in music. The panel may ask some follow-up questions based on the information you provide.
For the audition, you should wear neat casual clothes.
For applicants who apply and audition within the set audition period you will receive your audition results via the post in late November or early December. Late applicants will receive results 1 to 2 weeks after their audition or submission of DVD/Tape.
Whereas CQU prefers to audition applicants in person, where this is neither practicable nor possible, an audition by DVD is permitted. The following requirements must be followed in respect to DVD auditions:
1. Please ensure that you are fully visible in the camera frame.
2. The DVD should begin with the applicant giving their name, age and stating why you particularly wish to study music by distance education (flexible delivery) at CQUniversity (Australia);
3. The audition material must conform to the same requirements as for in-person auditions.
