In research the School works particularly closely with the Institute for Resources Industries and Sustainability (IRIS) and its key centres: Centre for Railway Engineering, the Process Engineering & Light Metals Centre; Centre for Environmental Management, Centre for Plant and Water Sciences, and the Power Engineering Research Group. The School is also working closely with the Learning and Teaching Education Research Centre and the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations funded Pathways Projects that are running at Mackay and Gladstone.

Our Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op) program is tailored to school leavers who want to include structured work experience in their program of study. At the end of your second year and during your fourth year of study, you will go on a six-month work placement. This work experience provides a great opportunity for you to find out what engineering is really about and you get paid! It also gets you out of the classroom and out into industry where you can start to build your professional network. Our co-op students are often offered graduate employment while they are on co-op placement so this is a great way to kick-start your career!
The Bachelor of Engineering program is available both on-campus and in distance mode. It is suitable for those students who want to become a professional engineer but who do not require the work placements. Since the program is available by distance delivery, you can study this program even if you are working full-time or you do not live near a CQUni campus. We also offer the Bachelor of Engineering Technology and Associate Degree of Engineering which are both available in distance mode.

Mining Engineering and Geoscience Programs
SUN (Start Uni Now) provides Year 11 and 12 students an opportunity to get a head-start on their career by enrolling in university courses whilst still in high school. Students can undertake a range of introductory and specific CQUniversity courses, either online (distance) or face-to-face (internal), and combine them with their regular high school work.
CQUniversity's Associate Degrees in Mining and Geoscience are based on the project-based learning philosophy which offers the opportunity to learn in context. This approach is designed to produce work-ready graduates with industry-relevant skills. These programs prepare graduates with the technical skills to provide support for mining engineers, metallurgists, surveyors and geologists at mine sites and in the field. Associate Degree of Mining graduates will be involved in the design, planning and operations of mines, mineral and coal processing plants. They typically find employment as Mine Technologists or Assistant Engineers and support Mining Engineers as para-professionals.
Associate Degree of Geoscience graduates enjoy a wide variety of challenging career options across a range of industries and government sectors. They typically work in positions in national and international public and private industry sectors including the mining, geophysical exploration, energy, transportation, construction, and education industries.
CQUniversity and University of Queensland's Partnership Program offers a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Engineering, sharing the program's delivery between the two institutions.

About Maintenance Management Programs
CQUniversity offers three different distance education programs in maintenance management leading to the qualifications of Graduate Certificate in Maintenance Management, Graduate Diploma of Maintenance Management and Master of Maintenance Management. The programs are specifically aimed at the professional upgrading of persons currently employed in the field of asset and maintenance management.
The development of these programs has been in response to a strong and clearly-voiced demand from industry. The courses within these programs were designed and developed in close cooperation with industry.
The Maintenance Management program aims to produce graduates who understand maintenance philosophies, strategies and processes, have a practical knowledge of the latest maintenance management tools and are able to contribute positively to the management of maintenance in the modern industrial organisation.
Power generation professionals work in the design, construction, fuel and waste product handling, operations, transmission, projects and maintenance areas. Knowledge in the thermal, electrical, mechanical, boiler chemistry, bulk material handling, safety, asset management and project management helps in enhancing reliability, availability, safety, sustainability and efficiency and reducing wastes and costs.
Developed by expert industry and university staff, the Power Generation program has been tailored for professional engineers and para-professionals already working in the power generation sector. Engineers working in other fields and recent graduates may also enrol in the program as a first step towards building a career in the power generation industry.

This suite of courses in railway signalling is developed by the collaborative Research Centre for Railway Engineering and Technology (Rail CRC), which is the peak railway research centre body in Australia, through its partners (including CQUniversity and key industry partners) and in partnership with the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers IRSE (Australasian section). The courses are licensed to the CQUniversity?s Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health for offering in the distance mode. The program is designed to develop competent and qualified railway signal engineers by providing formal education to new graduates who need to work in the railway signalling discipline.
Rail Operations Management
Rail Operation Managers are responsible for the timely and safe running of train services and services to passengers both on the train and at the railway stations. Rail Operations Managers could take the role of Train Controllers at the Train Management centre or Station managers or Customer Service Managers. This program is for persons currently associated with rail operation and its management, who are looking to extend their understanding or railway operation, and to improve their skills as professional rail operations managers.

Course materials have been developed by its partners (including CQUniversity and key industry partners) and with permission to use selected training materials developed by the Institute of Rail Operators (UK). The courses are licensed to the CQUniversity's Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health for offering in the distance mode. All courses are tutored by practising senior and experienced rail operations managers and consultants.
CQUniversity offers a series of Postgraduate qualifications for project managers and program directors designed to achieve best practice in the knowledge and management of infrastructure and resource projects.
The Graduate Certificate in Project and Program management is a qualification targeted at providing practicing project managers and directors with the 'hard' skills to run projects in the most challenging environment.
The Graduate Diploma in Project and Program management enables the project manager or director to build on the foundations of the Certificate and develop 'soft' skills in leadership and the application of governance to projects. With a strong emphasis on ethics, the Diploma meets the needs of the partnering projects between resource infrastructure developers, and government and sub-contractors.
