Rick Day- Walking on the Sand

Rick Day

Found Objects:

Palm seed pod

110 paces right from right-most beach access in front of cabins, at the water line.

Tracks, sand biting into abused feet

Slivers of driftwood, corals, rocks and stones

Scattered across sharp abrasive sand

Rhythm of the sea, crashing waves advancing, retreating

Carving rivulets in the gleaming strand

Raw soles washed, cooled, soothed

Discovered, resting dark on bright sands

Soft fibrous planes, veined and gouged

Aged-breast like husk with stalk standing proud

Hidden sand particles gleaming from sodden crevices

Shelter for new life still hidden from view

Worn, battered, intriguing

What journey has this pod seen?

Torn from the mother palm

Lost to running waters, dumped into the sea

Abandoned to the waves to be battered by surf

Pounded by one wave, beached by the next

Collected, gently cleansed, examined

Appreciated.
