CQUniversity's Idiom 23 Literary Magazine has become a force in regional and national writing, since it was first published in 1987. Named for the Tropic of Capricorn, Idiom 23 is an annual publication dedicated to encouraging writing in Central Queensland and throughout Australia. The magazine has been supported continually by the University, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education and particularly the School of Arts and Creative Enterprises.
As Idiom 23 is listed on the international small magazines market and Queensland Writers' Market Place, it receives a variety of submissions from overseas as well. Idiom 23 publishes short stories, poetry, the latest book reviews and some exciting photography from both writers and photographers.
The editorial collective is hoping to attract a range of short stories, poems, non-fictional pieces and photographs for this year’s publication. Idiom 23 is not limited to a particular viewpoint, but on the contrary wants to stimulate a broad spectrum of writing, seeking out creative work from writers with backgrounds as varied as possible. For further details, please see Submitting Your Writing.
To promote literary pursuits, Idiom 23 hosts an annual weekend of Writers' Workshops, which have been held on Pumpkin and North Keppel Islands and the secluded Byfield Rainforest in the past. For further information, please see Writers' Workshops.
