A treatment program for women who are pregnant and feeling anxious.
A cognitive behaviour therapy and interpersonal therapy program is currently being conducted by staff in the Wellness Clinic, led by PhD candidate Anita Nepean-Hutchison, and supervised by Professor Kevin Ronan at CQUniversity, Rockhampton.
The purpose of the study is to determine if an intervention program can assist expecting mothers who are feeling anxious, better manage and reduce their own anxiety and then ease the transition into their current parenting role. The program has been run on Gold Coast for the last 12 months, with positive outcomes demonstrated during the pilot phase to date.
These initial findings lay the groundwork for further research into outcomes of the program and larger-scale dissemination of the program into usual service settings. Information from this program will assist us in assessing methods for preventing anxiety in children.
