Statutory Declarations

Statutory declarations are written statements declaring that something is true and correct. They carry a degree of formal authority that statements with only a signature do not.

The person signing a 'stat dec' is liable to a penalty if the information provided is not, in their conscientious opinion, entirely correct.

Queensland Statutory Declaration
For matters dealt with by Queensland legislation, to be signed in the presence of a Solicitor, Justice of the Peace (JP) (Qual) or Commissioner of Declarations.

Commonwealth Statutory Declaration
For matters dealt with under Commonwealth legislation or for use anywhere in Australia. A list of suitable witnesses is provided on page 2 of the document.
