Legal Office

Some legal questions are answered inhouse by our own legal office however, lengthy, complex or specialist matters are briefed to external lawyers with the consent of the University Secretary.

Insurance questions are answered by the financial services division. 

Court documents including subpoenas should be referred to the University Secretary at Chancellery.

Ombudsmans complaints should be referred to the University Secretary at Chancellery.

Property matters such as leasing and the sale or purchase of land are the responsibility of the Office of the DVC (University Services). This divison should be consulted for advice or for referral to their external lawyers.

Research questions about contracts, commercialisation, and collaborative or partnership arrangements should be referred to the Office of the DVC (Research).

Privacy matters which relate to student records should be referred to the Office of the Academic Registrar.

Privacy matters which relate to staff records should be referred to the Division of People & Culture.

Copyright questions should be referred to the Copyright officer.

All other enquiries should first be referred to legaladvice@cqu.edu.au for an answer.
