Benchmarking Categorisations

Type/Approach

Enabling CQUniversity to:

Sector Benchmarking

to compare its performance with competitors in the higher education sector in Australia. May be used to compare strategies, approaches and overall performance with institutions that have been successful in areas of strategic importance to CQUniversity.

Whole of Institution (Collaborative) Benchmarking

compare processes and practices with a partner/s institution/s who shares similar operations and missions in order to identify successful practices as a basis for improvements.

International Benchmarking

widen its focus and compare processes and practices, strategic and performance with a comparable international provider or provider of international activities.

Discipline Benchmarking

as a self-accrediting institution to compare and demonstrate performance of a specific discipline area with another institution providing similar areas of study.

Standards-based Benchmarking

analyse processes, practices and outcomes against a generally agreed set of standards.

Internal Benchmarking

compare practices and processes across internal areas of the university in order to identify strengths and weaknesses for continued improvements in processes and practices

Generic Benchmarking

seek out best practice in a range of areas from organisations that are not direct competitors but who have similar processes, procedures or practices.

A guide to indicative benchmarking activities is provided to assist with the identification of benchmarking that might normally be undertaken or expected. Consider these activities and possible data sources relevant to you as an individual, as part of an organisational group, as part of a portfolio group, and also the University as a whole.
