The Association of Commonwealth Universities

The Benchmarking Programme offers a unique and cost-effective opportunity for participating universities to compare their key management processes with those in a range of other universities. This helps to identify areas for change and assists in setting targets for improvement and identifying techniques for managing change. Unlike most existing benchmarking initiatives, this Programme focuses on the effectiveness of university-wide processes and policies rather than narrow departmental functions. It enables members to learn from each others' experience of difficulty and success, across international boundaries.

Definitions

Individual is any member of staff

Academic relates to academic staff and organisational units including those involved in research.

Professional relates to the professional staff and service areas of the University.

Unit Group is defined as any subgrouping within the University.  For example, a course team or a program group; a research group or centre; a professional area group; or similar

Portfolio Group is defined as any larger, more complex organisational group.  For example, a School or faculty; Research Institute; Professional Directorate or Office (e.g. Office of Learning and Teaching)

University is defined as any area that has a 'whole of university' strategic responsibility.  This would include the areas that support the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellors.
